Stratonautica launches student-made 'satellites' into the stratosphere
We consider it our mission to help motivate young people to choose STEM disciplines as their future careers. We encourage school students to not only design and build their first satellite, but also test it in near-space! This motivates teenagers to pursue a space engineer's career path.
Our lab performs several educational launches per year in Russia, engaging high-school and university student teams. We have launched a number of 'satellites' carrying hardware developed by student teams. These missions pursued various educational and scientific goals. Every year we do launch campaigns for the Moscow State University, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, as well as standalone launches for different school teams.
'StratoSat' – an innovative educational program
Student teams design and build a CubeSat, then conduct its flight test in the near-space conditions of the stratosphere. Students not only learn the basic principles of small satellite design and manufacturing, but also get to test the hardware they have created themselves in near-space conditions. The chance to launch and validate their own satellite is a huge motivation for young engineers, thus helping grow a generation of passionate space generation domestically
Student-built satellites can perform a variety of missions, such as Earth Observation, astronomical observations, Earth atmosphere studies, biological experiments and many more.

StratoSat educational project is a Russian national educational science program targeting high-school and university students. The program aims to involve students from across Russia in high-tech activities, including those related to space exploration.
Each StratoSat team will pass the following milestones
Getting basic knowledge about space and space sciences, learning spacecraft development basics
01
Creating a design proposal (up to 6 standard pages long) for satellite development that must include the planned budget, technical details, testing schedule, etc
02
Actual sat R&D
03
Electromagnetic, dynamic vibration and environmental testing
04
Critical design review
05
Sat launch, with developer team at launch site or watching live remotely
06
Post-flight debriefing with mission and telemetry data review
